How do I get to Howth from Dublin city centre?

Howth is easy to reach from Dublin by DART train, bus or taxi. The DART goes directly to Howth Station; from there, most tour meeting points are a short walk away. Please allow enough time to arrive before your scheduled tour start.

How long do the tours last?

Scheduled tour times vary by experience and private group tours range from 1 to 4 hours.

Please check the individual tour page and your booking confirmation for the current duration.

Do I need to be fit to join a hiking, walking or e-bike tour?

Our experiences have different activity levels. A moderate level of fitness is required. The Howth Safari Hiking Tour is an off-road hike across woodland, heathland and coastal paths, and requires a reasonable level of fitness. Howth Coastal hike covers approx. 8km off road generally ascending or descending. The Panoramic E-Bike Tour includes on- and off-road cycling across varied terrain and requires good balance and cycling experience. If you are unsure which experience suits you, contact us before booking and we will help you choose the right option.

What should I wear and bring?

Howth’s coastal weather can change quickly, so dress in layers and come prepared for the conditions. For hikes and walks, we recommend sturdy shoes or boots, a waterproof jacket, water, a snack and sun protection when needed. Lightweight long trousers can be useful on off-road trails. For cooler days, bring gloves, a hat and a warm layer.

What happens if the weather is poor?

We assess the weather, tides and season to choose the best possible route or experience for the day. On the water routes may change according to conditions and safety requirements. Please come prepared for outdoor weather. If conditions mean an experience cannot operate safely, we will contact affected guests about the available options.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

Most scheduled tours offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Please check the cancellation terms shown when booking, as terms may differ for private groups, custom experiences or special events.

Will we land on Ireland’s Eye during the boat tour?

No. The Coastal Boat Tour explores around Ireland’s Eye, the Howth cliffs, caves, wildlife and the coastline from the water, getting the best up-close opportunities to spot the wildlife and puffins but does not land on the island.

Will we land on Lambay Island during the Howth Sea Safari?

No. The Howth Sea Safari explores around the island of Lambay, getting up close to the caves, wildlife and the coastline from the water, but does not land on the island.

What wildlife might we see?

Howth is part of the UNESCO Dublin Bay Biosphere and is home to a rich variety of coastal wildlife, including sometimes the chance to spot the wallabies on Lambay island. Depending on the season and conditions, guests may see seals, seabirds, puffins, gannets, guillemots, cormorants, kittiwakes, porpoises and other marine life. Our small group boat tours offer the best chance in Dublin to see puffins up close between April and July. Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
